Writing

Behind every sprinter, he is running from something or someone. Behind every actor, he is trying to be someone else. Behind every dancer, he wishes to fly like a bird. Behind every singer, he wishes to touch your heart and belt out his. Behind every lover, is the need for him to be loved. Behind every builder, he dreams to build his own one day.

Perhaps, behind every writer, he is ...

Writing To Reach You - Travis

Every day I wake up and it's Sunday
Whatever's in my head won't go away
The radio is playing all the usual
And what's a wonderwall anyway

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on the left side
'Cos I'm writing to reach you
But I might never reach you
I long to teach you about you
But that's not you

It's good to know that you are home for Christmas
It's good to know that you are doing well
It's good to know that you all know I'm hurting
It's good to know I'm feeling not so well

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on the left side
'Cos I'm writing to reach you
But I might never reach you
I long to teach you about you
But that's not you
Do you know it's true
And that won't do

Maybe then tomorrow will be Monday
And whatever's in my head should go away
Still the radio keeps playing all the usual
And what's a wonderwall anyway

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on the left side
'Cos I'm writing to reach you
But I might never reach you
I long to teach you about you
But that's not you
Do you know it's true
And that won't do
You know it's you
I'm talking to

when i'm blue
that's what i'd do too
i feel so true
when i speak to You

a silent whisper
little droplet of rain
and there can be no other
who won't leave me in vain

with behaviour
i communicate
none the better
can one read my fate

give me a sea of words
spell out my heart's content
mix the oceans in the world
guess till you're spent

mirrors of each other
stare and start to wonder
even waters don't really stir
and ripples will only linger

weak and weaker
You leave me hope for the better
no matter how we may differ
YOUR love keeps us together
stronger forever and ever

Perhaps we all are trying to reach out... one way or the other.

And a good choice for the interlude to go a long!:)

Salam dear Hoopoe... May we get to hear many more serenades from you in the future!

Esprit,

I wish to share 2 relevant verses from the Blessed Qur'an with you:

"And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer the prayer of the supplicant when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right path." ... a-Baqarah 2:186

"And hold fast, all together, by the Rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided." ... ali-Imran 3:103

ZeroZero,

Indeed, we are always trying to reach out... but each has a different thing/person that he is reaching out for.

What are the things we reach out: both in this temporal world and in the everlasting hereafter?

As arduous as the journey presents itself, we bring along some tools: friendship, companions, spouses ... and we express them in our writings, in our songs, in our laughter, in our cries ... in the maddening crowd of our daily lifes and yet even, in the silence of our aloneness.

What do we really reach out for?

Over teh tarik ... :-)

Ghoose,

In a friendship that has ended, or in a relationship that has been broken: no matter how far we think we have left them safely behind, when in fact, they never did left us at all.

How do we eradicate the moments we have spent with each other that constitutes part of our life and part of our journey? Those shattered relationships evolved to make us what we are today, and our current existence is in fact, an attribute to what we went through in that past history.

That is why, in moments when we are true to ourselves and we reminisce in the privacy of our own space, we think of those moments even if we do not share them with anyone.

It lays, forever, buried deep within the sanctuary of our own hearts - kept safe and sound.

Writing down things on paper therefore, is perhaps not akin to saying "Goodbye". It is embracing and accepting our past and is akin instead to saying "Welcome Back!"

Wallahu'a'lam

Dear Hoopoe, I think it would be an interesting topic to go long into the night!:) InsyaAllah, Teh Tarek would be a good ice-breaker session into the already 'no-need-for-any-introduction' gang! hahaha...

InsyaAllah:)

As the Hoopoe says, all experiences whether bad or otherwise have moulded us into what we are today. Whilst it is natural to regret some actions we may have done previously or relationships we may entered into, it is important for us to take the lessons learned and look forward rather than dwell on the past.

Unfortunately, too often we see people making the same mistake over and over again and not learning from their mistakes or those of others.

Having said that, I guess it must have been quite difficult for someone with the nature or character of Mr Stevens in Remains of the Day to come to terms with his regret, particularly as he does not seem have any shoulder he could lean/cry on.

thank you hudhud for the reminder...

i hope i didnt give the idea of myself as a loner who's in my own world, with esteem issues, and nobody-understands-nor-care-about-me type of attitude. i am ok.. :0)

humans are very complex beings, and every individual fills a different space at every point in time, carrying different backgrounds into every now, making him unique. nobody else can feel exactly how we are feeling deep down, only Allah knows best. and so behind every effort to reach out to others, is a desire to touch at the same time be touched, to feel belonged together, and to seek validation that we are not alone, that what we feel is what others can feel too, and if that is so then perhaps we can all understand each other. it is nice when others show care to us, it means that others understand our intrinsic need. and it also feels nice to show care to others as it means what we feel others are feeling is real. and when we need to feel cared for, we can get it out of others if we just ask for it.

ok too long, but i hope u get what i mean... i think i know u would (!!!) :0)

Good question. Whats behind every writer? Let me recall. At first I thought my writings are meant to reach out to others. But when I realise that I don't always have an audience and that many could not comprehend my work... I discover that I am actually writing to reach out to me. Like so many of us... I can't seem to stop writing... with or without an audience. It can be viewed as a gift and a curse at the same time. hehe

We only pray that the day we discover there is a Mr Stevens hiding within us, or all of the things that we regret, it will not be too late for us to right all our wrongs.

Amin.

You do not have to worry about being "judged" in this Blog. We all have our own personal issues: some of which we are willing to share with others, some we keep to ourselves.

In any case, the point which you raised is indeed true. Before we do whatever it is that we do to reach out, it will always fail as long as we have not reached out to ourselves - to our inner being, our secret-self that we try to hide from everyone etc

Only if that is fulfilled, can we reach out to others, if at all ...

Wallahu'a'alam

Welcome back!

Just as I was wondering about your "silence", you re-appeared. Masya-Allah and may Allah lengthen your life!

It does not really matter that you have "no" audience because at the end of the day, all that you are and what you are is simply trying to reach deep within yourself and after having done that, then to surge towards reaching out to Him.

Besides, the angels are always our audience :-)

The rest of us ... we are merely bystanders in your journey, as much as you are to ours - but important bystanders nonetheless.

Keep strong and persevere! :-)
