Over The Rainbow

Another song to brighten up the day. A beautiful rendition by Eva Cassidy of a beautiful old classic.

Over The Rainbow - Eva Cassidy

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Am a fan of the late Eva Cassidy. Maybe u wanna share her rendition of 'Autumn Leaves', her live @ blues alley album.

It brought tears to my eye...tsk tsk... (=(

MasyaAllah...

If Alley McBeal has her song, i have mine too. And this has been my song since 1978. This is the type of song that will lift you when your self confidence is low and allows you to dream the best dreams that you can ever dream of.

rudy,

yes, that is indeed an awesome rendition - the angelic voice and guitar ... absolutely fabulous :-)

perhaps someone could play the guitar in class one day and you can sing for us?

little miss pinky,

success is made of dreams - in the beginning. do carry on dreaming and insya-Allah one day, one of those dreams will come true.

Amin

d,

yes indeed. miraculous isn't it? we have been seeing rainbows these days :-)

and as a result, i was inspired to remember this song ... beautiful on its own, and it accentuates the beauty of everything else :-)

Eva wasn't that famous until her death. She was more of indie artist but her singing was fantastic. She was very much inspired by Aretha Franklin that she nicknamed herself 'Evaretha'. Singers are born from inspiration of other singers. They will 'hooked on' to their seniors until the day they discover their own style of vocal expression. Then, they will embark on their own artistic journey. Eva's rendition of the song is one of my favorites, apart from Barbra Streisand. My hats off to Judy Garland as the original performer fo Wizard of Oz. Also to Harold Arlen as the composer and E.Y. Harburg on lyrics. Enjoy peeps!

Yeah. Sweet voice. But....
I can't find the rainbow.
Listening to it...I only see rain.
(Bang my head on the table)

I shall hang on to TOMORROW. :-)

Hey, this is the song (same rendition too) that I would like to have played at my funeral one day... It's "my" farewell song.

saedah

can't listen to the rainbow, unfortunately.

but, if there is rain, the surely at the end of rain, where it meets the sun, there is the elusive rainbow ... at least that is what someone told me, recently, and when i was a little kid.

but i dont have to believe in all that anymore cos i have seen my rainbow, and that is enough :-)

we all have our songs: remember four weddings and funeral?

and yours is a nice farewell song.

mine? ravel's piano concerto in g major (for the left hand), second movement adagio assai. you will float in air ... the conversations the piano, the flute solo, followed by the oboe and the strings supporting at the back but yet, non intrusive ...

TheHoopoe said...

and the BEST version of ravel's recording is by the female pianist martha argerich and of course ... my eternal favourite: berlin philharmonic while it was under maestro herbert von karajan.

bliss ...

whilst the second movement (adagio assai) is probably ravel's most romantic, the first movement (allegramente) and the third movement (presto) was once hailed as impossible to be played due to the technical demands of the score on the pianist! i only knew of my piano teacher who has put up a solo performance for this piece.
