Only In Dreams

Back to music ... on a lazy hot Sunday afternoon. This song from the self-titled album of Weezer, was a favourite of mine and my brother's way back when he was still in college ... boy, was that way back then. We would just laze by the afternoons listening to the excellent and prominent bass in this song "Only In Dreams" played by Matt Sharp which primarily never resolves to the tonic of the key the song is played until the very last note of the song. Awesome! "Only In Dreams" is the longest track in the Blue (as it was popularly known) album with almost 8 minutes of play time.

When asked in 2006 what guitar solo he is the most proud of/likes the most, he answered "I'd have to go with "Only in Dreams" and (Make Believe track) "Haunt You Every Day" for sheer length. Epic, epic, epic. So few people play these kinds of solos anymore."

Missing my brother who loves this song - who is currently thousands of miles across the ocean. Hope to visit you soon before the year ends, insya-Allah ... Your favourite lines from the song:

"You can't resist her.
She's in your bones.
She is your marrow,
And your ride home."

Only In Dreams - Weezer

You can't resist her.
She's in your bones.
She is your marrow
And your ride home.

You can't avoid her.
She's in the air... in the air
In between molecules of
Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide.

[chorus]
Only in dreams
We see what it means.
Reach out our hands.
Hold onto hers.
But when we wake
It's all been erased.
And so it seems
Only in dreams.

You walk up to her.
Ask her to dance.
She says, "Hey, baby, I just might take the chance."
You say, "It's a good thing
That you float in the air... in the air.
That way there's no way I will crush your pretty toenails into a thousand pieces

Salam Hoopoe,
I wanna share my friend's fav quote:
"A plan without action is a dream,
an action without a plan is a mess"
Songs like Only in Dreams encourage passivity and very defeatist ah. Must choose inspiring ones.... like...mmm. Majulah Singapura. It builds confidence... or rather a confident nation. wahahaha

This was a melancholic journey of remembering more than 10 years that have passed. Alhamdulillah, since then, both my brother and me have "gone places."

But we love the song still, nonetheless.

Thanks for your input :-)

Maestro... i know that feeling listening to song with brothers... i used to have the same experienced while growing up... with all the differences we manage to agree & had many happy moments exchanging diff genres of music...hving an all boys siblings it helps to soothe the beast in us with the sound of music... now that we're old the memories are marked by the music that we share at that moment in time....ahh good ol time

ustaz getting in touch with his mat side eh... splendid choice!

i agree with the defeatist attitude to a certain extent, but beyond that it's a slippery slope to totalitarianism eh?

national tunes are sung with amusement rather than patriotism. admittedly, propaganda works... i do know one anthem that sparks loyalty and inspiration in every cell of my body :D

"WITH GOD TO GUIDE THE WAY!!!"
