I remember watching the film with the enigmatic Robert Redford. Great casting, but I prefer the book any day!

Fine. Reserving judgement is a matter of infinite hope.
But it doesn't mean that we are blind to any flaws and faults.
Is it not?
Btw... can hope really be infinite? :-)

yes, unfortunately this is one of those movies (amongst many) that does not measure up the mark with the book.

but come to think of it - will it ever be possible with the dandiness of The Great Gatsby?

the thing is, we should not be blind to our own flaws and faults - instead of finding them in others.

and why should not hope be infinite? :)
