Imam Qusheri had a favourite student and people noticed that he liked him, other students became jealous. So he set all of his students a test, to kill this bird but do it where nobody is watching. The students came back one by one with their birds killed except the favourite student. He said, “I couldn’t find any spot where no one was looking.” The other students stopped and realised why he liked him so much. (He always knew that Allah, The Almighty was always looking at him.)

I've heard this wonderful story many a times. A wonderful example to indicate that the Almighty is watching us all the time. However, I think some have variations as to who the student was. Was it Sheikh Abdul Jailani? You have the name?
