Aesop's Fables

The Flies and the Honey-Pot

A number of Flies were attracted to a jar of honey which had been overturned in a housekeeper's room, and placing their feet in it, ate greedily. Their feet, however, became so smeared with the honey that they could not use their wings, nor release themselves, and were suffocated. Just as they were expiring, they exclaimed, "O foolish creatures that we are, for the sake of a little pleasure we have destroyed ourselves."

Pleasure bought with pains, hurts.

True, pleasure bought with pains, hurts...
Still, some would rather go through extreme pains to get that single drop of pleasure...than to not expreience the pleasure at all because of fear of being hurt.

As I was once told, you would not know extreme pleasure if you do not know extreme pain...

Maybe the flies should have taken Robbie Williams' advice...
'No regrets, they don't work...
No regrets now, they'll only hurt...'

Flies should have continued eating honey irregardless...hehe

flies should stick to fruit,
as a "sweet treat" -something different from the usual rotten leftovers.
leave honey for the bees.

the Malay parallel to this seems like 'gajah berak besar rusa pon nak berak besar' - the deer just can't do it and so ends up with a torn and burnt...'anal orifice' (pardon me!)

one should be content with what one has and not ask for more than what one can afford, else the self will suffer (e.g. shop only during sale :))))

aesop's fables are like p.ramlee films, don't you think? the enduring quality lies in the universality and timelessness of messages found in their stories.

E honey can also be interpreted as worldly pleasures...for a little pleasure from this world, we are forgetting the more permanent afterlife..so by seeking worldly pleasure, we are going to regret during the Day of Judgement...(",)

Subhanallah...

the moral of the story is that one should not be greedy. Thats all.
